Welcome to Relocurious: Exploring the Emotional Side of Moving Abroad
Have you ever felt the desire to start fresh in a new country? Are you excited by the possibilities, yet also unsure of what it might mean for your identity, relationships, and sense of belonging? If so, you’re in the right place. And the right company.
We’re Kathy and Michal, and we welcome you to Relocurious, a space where we explore the emotional and psychological side of international relocation, and where we ponder intentionality (the “why” of moves), expectations, and what fulfills us.
Moving abroad isn’t just about logistics and paperwork – though there is a lot of that, too. We find relocating to be a deeply personal experience that can challenge, stretch, and transform. Through this newsletter — and a new podcast — we’ll dive into what we have found it means to uproot your life, step into the unknown, and navigate the highs and lows of starting over somewhere new. We will also offer resources that may help you prepare for the emotional journey of relocating to a new country.
Who We Are & Why This Matters to Us
We both have experienced international moves firsthand, sometimes with the safety net of work, school, or family to help us find our way, and most recently, with none of those resources or supports waiting for us in our new country.
With each move, we’ve learned that while practical preparation is essential, getting ready emotionally is just as important. Understanding our motivations, fears, and expectations has helped us navigate these transitions with greater resilience.
Michal brings a background in educational psychology and coaching conversations, and Kathy has a keen interest in positive psychology. Together, we’re passionate about self-reflection, identity, and exploring the psychological aspects of life transitions. We believe that moving abroad is an opportunity for growth, while it also comes with uncertainty, loneliness, and unexpected challenges. We created Relocurious to explore these topics openly, offering a space where a community of people on similar journeys can reflect, learn, and feel supported.
You might notice that our writing styles differ—Michal leans into thoughtful, structured prose, while Kathy takes a more conversational approach. We see this as part of the adventure—just like moving abroad itself, where different perspectives and ways of expressing ourselves make the experience richer.

A Podcast – In-depth conversations with expats, nomads, and life adventurers about their journeys, struggles, and how they’ve worked through those, adapted, and made new lives for themselves in a new place.
