One of the things I learned early on in my career (thankfully) is that there is usually some reason behind the system being what it is. It may not be a good reason, but it is the way it works, however funky. You could get angry or frustrated, or you could, as you say so well, leave your mind open to explore why things are the way they are. And of course, be okay with perhaps never knowing. :-)

Hello Barbara. I appreciate the humility in “perhaps never knowing.” Systems are created in the context of particular constraints, incentives, fears, usually good intentions. I find it useful to remember that every system is perfectly designed to produce the results we see — even when those results may puzzle or frustrate us. What looks ‘funky’ on the surface often makes sense when explored through the conditions that gave rise to it. The developmental question on my mind is, as the conditions change — as the world changes — how can we, together, evolve our systems so they continue to serve us now and in the future? -- Michal
